Acetabulofemoral joint Brianna Smathers

What is the hip joint The hip joint is a ball-and-socket synovial joint otherwise known as diarthrosis this meaning its the most movable joint in the body of a mammal formed between the os coxa (hip bone) and the femur. A round, cup-shaped structure on the os coax, known as the acetabulum, forms the socket for the hip joint.

Ischiofemoral ligament ●One of the main ligaments ●Consists of a triangular band of strong fibers on the posterior side of the hip joint. hip §

Pubofemoral ligament ●Considered to be a supporting element of the joint capsule reinforcing the inferior and anterior capsule ● ligament on the inferior side of the hip joint.hip ●extends from the pubic portion of the acetabular rim and passes below the neck of the femur. ●Functions include preventing hyperextension, over-abduction,and external rotation.

Gluteal muscles ●The gluteus maximus is the largest of the gluteal muscles and one of the strongest muscles in the human bodymusclesstrongest muscleshumanbody ●Injuries include gluteus maximus syndrome caused by spasm. ●responsible for movement of the hip and thig, rising from a sitting position

Iliopsoas muscle ● The iliopsoas is the strongest of the hip flexors. hip flexors ● The iliopsoas is important for standing, walking, and running. The iliacus and psoas major perform different actions when postural changes occur. standing walking running

Quadriceps femoris muscles ●large fleshy muscle group ●are important for almost all activities involving the legs

Abductor Muscle ●group of four muscles ●main functions are to abduct or bring your legs towards the midline of your body, and for crossing your legs across the midline of your body

Injuries Hip pointer: extremely painful, occurs in contact sports Hip replacement: caused my injury to joint or arthritis labral tear: caused by trauma dislocation or injury
