3 Investments Public Traded Company – Company that has shares of stock available for purchase by investors on the open stock market Shareholder, Stockholder – someone owning stock in the public traded company

6 Investments NYSE – New York Stock Exchange  The oldest U.S. stock exchange  Located on Wall Street in New York City – The financial capital of the U.S. NASDAQ – National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations  An electronic-based securities trading market

7 Investments When trading stock, select stable companies to invest in for a safe investment With great risk comes great rewards, but also great losses

8 Investments Go towww. nasdaq.com Use Microsoft Excel to record 5 different types of stocks you would like to invest in. You will observe them over the next 5 weeks. Record this info for each stock:  Symbol  Last Sale  % Change  Share Volume

12 Other Investments Bonds a loan taken out by a government or company to be paid back with interest considered "fixed income" securities because the same income will be generated regardless of market conditions you'll need to know  par value (amount loaned)  coupon rate (interest rate)  and maturity rate (when the principal and interest must be paid back)

13 Other Investments Mutual funds a professionally managed type of collective investment scheme that pools money from many investors to buy stocks, bonds and other securities. not insured by any government agency built-in diversification some funds have low initial purchase amounts, and you'll have to pay annual management fees

14 Other Investments Gold and silver these are great ways to store your money and keep up with inflation They are not subject to tax and they are easy to store and very liquid (can buy and sell easily).
