Digestive System By: Diana Romero, Aspen Clawson, and Jordan Jeffrey

Basic Digestive System of Mammals  Basic Digestive System: The basic digestive system is composed of a mouth, where the food enters, an esophagus the tube that connects the mouth to the stomach, the stomach is where food starts to digest. Then to the small and large intestines where nutrients is absorbed and bacteria is ejected from digested food. Then down to rectum and to the anus, where food leaves the body.  Main Function of the Basic Digestive System: The main purpose of the digestive system is to absorb and break down food into small molecules and absorb into the body. The digestive system is divided up into two parts: the digestive tract. The digestive tract is a continuous tube with two openings: the mouth and anus. The liver has multiple functions, it is to process the nutrients absorbed from the small intestine. The digestive system also converts food into energy and waste.

Contrast Of Human, Fish, and Bird Digestive System  Fish Digestive system:  The fish digestive system has many different parts: the mouth, the esophagus, the stomach, the intestines and the anus. The main function of the digestive system in the fish is to break down food to absorb nutrients for the fish’s body.   Human Digestive system:  The human digestive system has many parts: the mouth, the esophagus, the stomach, the liver, the gallbladder, the pancreas, the small and large intestine, the rectum, and the anus. The function of the human digestive system is to break down food eaten and to supply nutrients to the human body. . Bird Digestive System:  The bird digestive system has many different parts: the mouth, the esophagus, the crop, the stomach, the gizzard, the intestine (large and Small), the rectum and Urinary Vent. The main function of the bird digestive system is to break down food and absorb nutrients for further use 

Comparison of Human, Fish, and Bird Digestive Systems  Comparison:  All birds, fish and humans have mouths, esophagus, stomach, and intestines.  Birds have as many parts as the human only 2 less while a fish consists of basic parts of a digestive system..

Fish Digestive System

Label the Fish as the Powerpoint goes along.

A Fish has a Mouth located at the front of the fish’s body. It helps to take in the food into the body. Mouth

A fish has an esophagus. An esophagus is an tube that connects the Mouth to the stomach and uses muscle contractions to transport the food. Mouth Esophagus

A fish has a stomach. The stomach is where food Is placed until it Goes to the intestines. In some fishes, stomachs aren’t very useful but some Do indeed have stomachs. Others do not. Mouth Esophagus Stomach

A fish has a large and small intestine. The large intestine absorbs Nutrients and the small intestine takes away any toxins. Large Intestine Small Intestine

A fish has an anus. The anus is where the food is dispersed from the Body. Large Intestine Small Intestine Anus

Now we will go on with the Bird’s digestive system. Please Finish The fish worksheet

Bird Digestive System

Label the Bird Digestive System As the Powerpoint goes along

Mouth All birds have mouths inside their beaks. As you know mouths are used as the entrance for food into the body.

Esophagus A bird has an esophagus. An esophagus is used to transport the food To the stomach using muscle contractions to move the food downward.

Crop All birds have a crop. A crop is what a bird uses to help hold food in case it can’t fit in the stomach.

Stomach All birds have stomachs. The function of the stomach is to hold food and also start digesting the food.

Gizzard All birds have gizzards. The function of a gizzard is to help the Bird grind up the food.

Large Intestine Small Intestine All Birds have a large and small intestine. The large intestine absorbs Nutrients and the small intestine takes away any toxins.

Anus Urinary Vent All birds have an anus, and urinary vent that work together to excrete waste from the digestive system.

Now Finish labeling the bird Digestive System and we will Be moving on to the Human Digestive System

Label the Human Digestive System as the PowerPoint goes on Human Digestive System

Mouth All humans have a mouth where food is taken in

Mouth Esophagus All humans have an esophagus that connects the mouth to the stomach

Mouth Esophagus Liver All humans contain a liver where bile(a digestive fluid) is produced

Mouth Liver Esophagus Stomach All humans contain a stomach that does chemical and mechanical digestion using acids and churning

Mouth Liver Esophagus Stomach Pancreas All humans have a pancreas that Produces a juice that contains Enzymes, which break down carbohydrates, fats, in food.

Mouth Liver Esophagus Stomach PancreasGallbladder All humans contain a gallbladder that stores bile and releases it when needed.

Mouth liver Pancreas Esophagus Stomach Gallbladder Small Intestine All humans contain a small intestine that finishes digestion and absorbs soluble food.

Liver Esophagus Stomach Mouth Large IntestineSmall Intestine PancreasGallbladder All humans contain a large intestine that serves as a reservoir for liquids that are transmitted from the small intestine.

Mouth Esophagus Gallbladder Liver Small Intestine Stomach Pancreas Appendix Large Intestine All humans contain an appendix that is really useless.

Stomach Gallbladder Mouth Esophagus Liver Small IntestineLarge Intestine Pancreas AppendixRectum Humans contain a rectum that stores solid waste until it is released.

Anus Large Intestine Esophagus Small Intestine Gallbladder Liver Appendix Mouth Rectum Pancreas Stomach Humans contain an anus that serves as the outlet of the digestive Tract.

Please Finish The Human worksheet and turn in.
