Count and Compare Jimmetra Markray

Teacher information 0 Subject: Math 0 Grade level: Kindergarten 0 Summary: The student will count the number of animals in each set and determine which set had more, less, or if the two sets are equal. 0 Objective: Given two sets of animals the student will count and compare the two groups with 100% accuracy. 0 Standard: CCSS.Math.Content.K.CC.6 Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group, e.g. by using matching and counting strategies.

Refresh 0 Remember what we learned about the alligator’s mouth. It always opens towards the larger number. 0 Example: I have 7 _ 9, < would go in the blank. 7 is less than 9. 0 One more example: 8 _ 2, > would go in the blank. 8 is greater.

What about a tie? 0 No, not that kind of tie! If the first and second number are the same then they are equal. 0 Example 9 _ 9, = would go in the blank. 9 equals 9. It’s a tie, get it?

Instructions 0 Soon you will be give two groups of animals to compare. 0 To determine which group has more or less you must use your excellent counting skills to count the number of animals in each group. 0 Once you know how many animals each group has you can answer the question accurately.

3. Compare the number of animals in each group and choose the correct sentence below. a. Group A > Group B Group A > Group B b. Group A < Gorup B Group A < Gorup B c. Group A = Group B Group A = Group B Group B Group A

Fantastic!

Summary Today you exercised your counting and comparing skills. That’s right, you: Accurately counted the number of animals in each set. Identified whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group, by using matching and counting strategies.
