2. Objectives
Culture encompasses similarities and differences among people including their beliefs, knowledge, changes, values, and traditions.
This week we are going to explore these elements of society to develop an appreciation and respect for the variety of Native American groups.
Today, I want all of you to gain a better understanding of the diversity of the Cherokee tribe and be able to participate in class discussion about this group.

Native American people originally from the Southeastern United States (Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee)
commanded more than 40,000 square miles in the southern Appalachians by 1650 with a population estimated at 22,500
