Vocabulary  Excretory System  Ureter  Urinary Bladder  Urethra  Cortex  Medulla  Renal Pelvis Agenda  Do Now  Introduction -Aim - Objective - Vocabulary  Mini Lesson  Questions & Summary  Work Period: YOU Practice!  Exit Slip Aim: What are the diseases of the excretory system?

Do Now: Can you name some parts of the excretory system? Warm Up ( Think About) How does our body parts depend on each other? And Does certain parts of our body affect other parts? Think over with a partner for 2 mins.

The excretory system is responsible for the excretion of nitrogenous wastes in form of urea, and the reabsorption of water and vital minerals to maintain balance in the human body. The main function of the excretory system, also referred to as the urinary system, is to maintain a proper balance of body fluids through the excretion of waste products. Flash Question : What system is the Excretory system connected with ?

 The Kidneys are paired organs responsible for urine formation 3 Major Parts of the Kidneys are :  Cortex- contain the fluid filtering mechanism  Medulla- contains collecting ducts leading to renal pelvis  Renal Pelvis- funnel shaped, collecting area that collects urine that then drains out of the Ureter.  Ureter are long tubes leading from the Kidney to the Bladder  The Bladder stores urine from the Ureters. The bladder is covered by a smooth muscle  The Urethra is a tube that take urine out the body with the help of the Urethral Sphincter.

DiseaseDefinitionCauseSymptomsTreatment NephritisAny type of kidney inflammation, affects children and teenagers far more than adults Nephritis can be caused by infection, but mostly by autoimmune disorders Reduced urine Cloudy Urine Blood in Urine Loin Pain Kidney Information -cortisone or - cytotoxic drugs -Diuretics -Antibiotics -Surgery NephrosisAny degenerative disease of the renal tubules, a kidney disease caused by a defect in the glomeruli. Hypertension Diabetes Myeloma Systemic Lupus erythematous No Symptoms-Diuretics -Antibiotics -Dialysis -Diet Kidney StonesA kidney stone is a solid mass made up of tiny crystals. One or more stones can be in the kidney or ureter at the same time. Had kidney infections Have a family member with kidney stones Have had kidney stones before Eat a lot of animal protein Do not drink enough liquids Fever Nausea Vomiting Chills Blood in Urine Pain on belly or Back -Surgery -Water Pills -Phosphate Solutions -Diuretics -Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy

DiseaseDescriptionCausesSymptomsTreatment Ureteroceleswelling of one of ureters (tubes), usually occurs in the lower part of the tube. The urine released from the kidney may build up in the ureter and form a sac like structure. This swollen area may prevent urine’s flow to the bladder. The swollen area prevents urine from moving freely into the bladder. The urine collects in the ureter and stretches its walls, blowing it up like a water balloon. Back Pain Burning When Urinating Foul-Smell Urine Lump Urinary Track infection (UTI) Antibiotics Surgery Draining of the Ureter Vesicoureteral Reflux common in children, but may carry in adulthood. Urine would flow back to ureters from the bladder; that could lead to infection. The cause is due to the malfunctioned valve between the bladder and ureters. This defect occurs before birth. Abnormal widening of the Ureter Urinary Track Infection Endoscopic injection Ampicillion - infants younger than 6 weeks Bactrim

DiseaseDescriptionCausesSymptomsTreatment Bladder CancerCancer that forms in tissues of the bladder Cigar Smoking Chemical Exposure at work Long Term Bladder infection Fatigue Urinary Frequency Blood in Urine Urinary Leakage Weight Loss Radical Surgery Laser

DiseaseDescriptionCausesSymptomsTreatment Urethritisswelling and irritation (inflammation) of the urethra. bacteria Virus sexually transmitted diseases Burning pain while urinating Discharge from penis Fever (rare) Frequent or urgent urination Itching, tenderness, or swelling in penis or groin area Pain with intercourse or ejaculation Pelvic pain Vaginal discharge Pain Relievers Antibiotics

Most of the Excretory Diseases occur due to the malfunction of these structures. Some Excretory diseases can affect certain structures in the system but it can also cause complication to he rest of the system if left untreated.
