Importance of Names In The Bible John 1:12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— Phil 2:9-11 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

6 1b. Importance of Names In The Bible A name is a label, an explanation, an identity A name is a door, an access: “Whom shall I say is calling?” God’s Name is the most important name (names) there is!

The Command To Keep His Name Dear “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.” Exodus 20:7 a. “In vain” means “without sincerity” Pretending to have a relationship with Him b. “In vain” means “without proper respect” Using His name in a casual or frivolous way c. “In vain” means “without manipulation” Using His name to control people

9 3. The Impact of the Lord’s Names On Average People a. YAHWEH-JIREH – meaning, "The Lord will provide" Genesis 22:13-14 b. YAHWEH-NISSI – meaning, "The Lord our banner" Exodus 17:15 c. YAHWEH-SHALOM – meaning, "The Lord is peace" Judges 6:24 d. YAHWEH-SABBAOTH – meaning, "The Lord of Hosts" Isaiah 6:1-3
