5 Guiding Principles Use great care with student privacy issues: sample consent formsample consent form Teach respect for copyright and intellectual property Be skeptical of technophilia / hype Less is sometimes more Most students do NOT know more about technology than you … … except when they do: be receptive and not threatened by such students Sharing technology and look for free things

12 Poetry with image exercise Write a poem of 10-20 lines. Find three images on the web that seem to “go” with it. Find three images that don’t “go” with it in any way, or seem to offer a weird contrast Arrange your words and images on a PowerPoint in an artful way. Be ready to share and discuss. OUTCOMES : Learning about irony, narrative order, basics of PowerPoint.

13 Xtranormal Play Create a free account on Xtranormal.Xtranormal Write a short – but at least 30-60 seconds long – mini- play using any avatars or setting you wish. There must be a serious conflict and a series of lies in the play. Be prepared to share it. OUTCOMES: Learning about the creation of distinct characters through dialogue; conflict; plotting.

14 Twitter Poetry Create a Twitter account using a pen name. Try your hand and half a dozen Twitter poems. Read a few haiku poems by Matsuo BashoRead a few haiku poems by Matsuo Basho. Compare and contrast your own efforts on Twitter with Basho. Be ready to discuss. OUTCOMES : Learning about a classic literary form, language compression, cutting down on wordiness
