3. Leadership As a campus leader it was important to begin ground work with the new mandated college preparation course. To begin with I had to understand who was able to take the course and how credits and waivers would take effect for students. The plan was to create a curriculum that would give students college readiness knowledge and skills. 1. Create a syllabus in partnership with the University of Texas- Pan American and South Texas College. 2. Establish the scope and sequence. 3. Find students who do not meet college readiness standards.

Finding the Students With help from the Head Counselor we looked at data to see who has passed Algebra 2 with less than an 75 and who has failed the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) college readiness exam. The delay was “selling” the class to 12 th grade students who felt they did not need the class. One strategy was to advise the students of the benefits of taking the college preparatory class. Those who successfully pass the class may use the credit towards satisfying an advanced mathematics curriculum requirement under section 28.025 or for the foundation high school program under section 28.025 and 28.014.
