5 A rare cause of trigeminal neuralgia: dysplastic venous aneurysm of dural arteriovenous fistula Trigeminal neuralgia is a common neuropathic disorder characterized by episodes of intense pain in the face. Vascular compression of the root entry zone of the trigeminal nerve is the most common cause of trigeminal neuralgia. Despite the offending vessel is frequently an artery, trigeminal neuralgia cases resulting from venous compression of the nerve root are also reported. A dysplastic venous aneurysm may be a rare cause of trigeminal neuralgia due to compression of trigeminal nerve. Saglam et al. © 2014 American Academy of Neurology
