2 French nouns - singular
All nouns in French have a gender. When there is only one thing (singular) the word for ‘the’ needs to match the gender: Le is used with masculine words. La is used with feminine words. When the noun starts with a vowel ‘le’ or ‘la’ becomes l’.

3 French nouns - plural When there is more than one thing (plural) the word for ‘the’ becomes les for all words – whether they are masculine or feminine. You simply need to add an –s to the noun to make the word plural: la fille les filles le garçon les garçons Words that end in –u add an –x instead of an –s in the plural form: le gâteau les gâteaux
