3 Commission Position 20 years after the beginning of INTERREG and European Territorial Co-operation this objective has lost none of its importance. On the contrary, the global financial and economic crisis clearly showed that we need to step up our efforts to overcome structural deficits and to work better across national, regional and local borders Johannes Hahn Commissioner for Regional Policy

4 Commission Position -findings- Results of consultations and impact assessments: Broad consensus about the high value added of European Territorial Cooperation but needs to develop: - integration with all levels of strategic planning - standardisation of rules and procedures -legal framework to better address multi-national contexts -priority topics for intervention -complementary and integrated approach between programmes
