Some Social Informatics scholars use computerization and big data to understand, predict and explain complex social technical phenomena. Some use social science approaches to study the complex relationships between people, ICT and work and play in a wide range of social and organizational settings. Social Informatics is an interdisciplinary research domain that includes social studies, human dynamics, computing science, and industrial engineering technologies that consider social context. It is one of the emerging themes across a number of information and communication technology fields and has attracted significant interest from not only researchers in computing, information science, and social sciences, but also software and online game vendors, web entrepreneurs, political analysts, and digital government practitioners. The ASE International Conferences on Social Informatics have become a key forum for researchers and industry practitioners to exchange information regarding innovations and advances in the state of art and practice of social informatics. The conferences were held in Washington D.C. in 2012, in Orlando, Florida in 2013, and at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA in 2014. This year is the first time for the conference to be held outside USA. It will be hosted by National University of Kaohsiung, Taiwan from Oct. 7th to 9th, 2015, and held jointly with the Fifth ASE International Conference on Big Data. We very sincerely welcome all of you, the outstanding researchers in social informatics, to gather together in the ocean city of southern Taiwan.
