4 5 facts about Teachers ! The average working week of a teacher in the UK is 38 hours, or more than 7.5 hours per school day. Teachers in Japan work the longest of any around the world – they clock up 54 hours or nearly 11 hours each day. Harry Potter author, JK Rowling is one of many teachers who later became famous. Other include the astronomer Gallileo, ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle, and Albert Einstein who won the Nobel Prize in physics. Anyone can train to be a teacher but not everyone can teach; teachers need to be patient, good at talking to people, a good listener and helpful. In Victorian times teachers often taught classes of 80 children or more. Teachers were very, very strict to keep order. The United Nations (UN) has an annual World Teachers' Day to recognise the work of teachers and their contributions to society. It is observed on October 5 each year.
