The effects of the generation gap
To the both sides: distrust each other, refuse to communicate, keep distance, easy to hurt each other, bad family relationship

Have you ever run into the problem of generation gap in your family life?

Like many young people in our society, I have once found it hard to exchange my feelings or ideas with my parents. At first, I tried to listen to them, giving little thought to my own feelings; but later I found out what they said did not always hold water. So I began to stick to my ways of thinking, turning a deaf ear to theirs. Before long, however, that made me an object of their endless criticism. Hit with this, I managed to communicate with my parents in a round-about way. Now I have got a lot of benefit from it. Sample

What cause the generation gap?
Have you ever thought about this question? Try to analyze.

Cause 1 The different educational and living environments contribute a lot to the birth of today’s wide generation gap.

Cause 2 In our upwardly mobile society, parents often expect their children to be better than them. However, these ambitions for their children are another cause of the division between them.

Cause 3 with the pace of modern life becoming faster and faster , both of them are so busy with their work or study that they don't spare enough time to exchange ideas.

How can we bridge the gap or at least narrow it down?
The older generation try to learn more about the new things. They should seize every chance to talk with their children about their new “discoveries”. In this way, both sides may find something in common between them.

Young people should also learn to appreciate the hobbies or tastes of the old. Do not undervalue those traditional treasures. Young people should show certain respect to the older generation. They shouldn’t be too self-important.

The Key Solution The two generations are supposed to spare some time for communication regularly. Only through communication can the two sides remove the barriers between them and both should take an appreciative attitude toward the other’s choice.

What you can do? You must haven’t forgotten the scene your parents accompanied you to this university. See this picture.

Nobody loves you more than your parents.

Revision Revise your opinion of generation gap based on what we have discussed.
