DELIVERING A SUCCESSFUL PRESENTATION

Practice Practice before the actual presentation to the point where you do not need notes to remind you Time yourself while practicing. Use your voice while practicing DO NOT write your presentation and read it to the audience You may use a tape recorder when practicing to help you evaluate your presentation

The Introduction Introduce yourself State the topic you will be presenting and its importance. Give an outline of your presentation. Discuss the basic theory and equations (if needed) you used in your topic.

The Body Talk about the methods and procedures used (e.g., data acquisition and analysis). Present your data using figures rather than tables or text. Discuss the results of your research and support them by well-selected figures. Use only figures and data that are directly relevant to your conclusions

The Conclusions Use a text slide to state your conclusions. Mention only the MAIN conclusions of your study. Each of your conclusions must be supported by data and results that you have presented clearly in the body

General Notes Face your audience most of the time and look at them Know your audience and gear your talk to their level of specialization Try to look your best. This includes the way you dress.

Think about the possible questions that the audience may ask you in Q&A part and find answers for them. If you feel tense before or during the talk, don’t worry; it is normal. One way to overcome this is to concentrate on the slides rather than the audience. When speaking, don’t use a monotonous voice. It is boring.

Speak clearly using the correct grammar, pronunciation, and usage. Do not use filler sounds (uh), words (OK), phrases (you see). If you do not know what to say then keep silent until you find the right word. Avoid excessive movement during your presentation. However, do not stand still most of the time; it is normal to use your hands to point to something. Use one slide to illustrate one point. Explain every parameter on your slide
