3 Vocabulary: Paragraph 1 1 jackpot: the biggest or most expensive prize given in a contest 2 purchase: when you purchase something, you buy it (a formal use) 3 luxury: luxury item is something expensive which is not necessary but which gives you pleasure 4 hit the jackpot: to win the top prize in a contest 5 strike it rich: to make a lot of money

4 Vocabulary: Paragraph 2 1 affluent: wealthy, prosperous 2 tricky: if you describe a task or problem as tricky, you mean that it is difficult to do or deal with 3 employ, employment, employee, employer 4 accountant: a person who keeps financial records and gives financial advice to a person or company 5 invest, investment: people use their money in a way that they hope will increase its value

5 Vocabulary: Paragraph 2 6 windfall: sudden good luck, especially unexpected money 7 counselor: a person whose job is to give advice to people who need it, especially advice on their personal problems 8 fortune: wealth, riches 9 sensible: the actions or decisions which are based on reasons rather than emotions 10 unforeseen: unexpected, happening by accident
