2 Google Earth – More Than a Map! Searchable virtual globe of satellite maps GIS-like map layers What Google says: “The idea is simple. It's a globe that sits inside your PC. You point and zoom to anyplace on the planet that you want to explore. Satellite images and local facts zoom into view. Tap into Google search to show local points of interest and facts. Zoom to a specific address to check out an apartment or hotel. View driving directions and even fly along your route. “

5 Why Use Google Earth? 21 st Century Skills Use layers in GIS; use spelling and grammar check in word processor. Use general purpose productivity tools and peripherals to support personal productivity remediate skill deficits, and facilitate learning. Create new folders; save images and files in folders; use handles to resize images; copy/paste between applications. Students demonstrate a sound understanding of the nature and operation of technology systems. Make a tour to express and share understanding. Use technology tools for individual and collaborative writing, communication, and publishing activities to create knowledge products for audiences inside and outside the classroom. 13 What Villa Students are Saying “It’s a fun and fascinating way to see the earth” ~Kelly, 6 th Grade “I think that by using Google Earth, kids will be more involved in learning. Some people are visual learners, so by using it, kids can understand so much more about geography.” ~Claire, 6 th Grade “Google Earth is so neat because it can be used in more than one subject. Not only is it used in computer class, but social studies, religion, art, ILA, and many more……. Right now we are making a tour of battles of the Revolutionary War….. It is so much easier to remember the places and information because we can see it and type it in.” ~Kassy, 7 th Grade “It’s like almost actually going there without leaving your seat. We got to look at so many pictures and information. It was like so amazing!” ~Peggy, 3 rd Grade
