2 Institution Website and Trust Website Quality of the College Website is generally a good indicator of the quality of the College. Institution should present information in a transparent manner. Mandatory Disclosures have to be detailed. Google Search for the College. If you cannot find it, it’s very likely that the recruiters may skip it too.

3 Governing Council Members People who decide the future of the institution. Successful Governing Council Members incorporating their ideals into the Mission and Vision of the Institution could mean a Successful YOU. They should be a good mix of Eminent Academicians Successful Businessmen Popular Industrialists Philanthropists

4 Building Infrastructure Spacious and Well Ventilated Classrooms, Tutorial rooms and Laboratories. Hygienic Restrooms State of the art Facilities: LCD Projectors, Provision for recording of Lectures…

5 Laboratory Infrastructure Necessary Equipment to carry out the course work effortlessly. Sufficient number of equipments for the experiments to be conducted Individually. Facility for Repetition Classes. Trained and Qualified Instructors.

6 Library Infrastructure Large Number of titles and volumes as per the AICTE specification. Subscription to E-Journals IEEE, ASME. Indian Journals – 12 for each branch. A few International Journals. Library Working Working Hours: At least 12 Hours. Library Cards: Minimum of 3. Duration of Book Borrowing: Minimum of 1 Month.

7 Teaching Infrastructure The most important feature. Every department with 60 students at I year level to have 1 professor, 3 Associate Professors and 7 Asst. Professors. All staff to have minimum of PG degree. Doctorates in each department (highly desired). Research centre in a department (desirable). Average Experience to be at least 5 years(desirable). Majority of the teachers to be University Examiners(highly desirable). At least 6 Publications in the form of Books and Journals by the staff of a department (desirable).

8 Placement Activity Check for trained Placement Officer. Check if at least 70% students are getting placed. Check if average pay package is at least 2.5 lakhs pa. Check if at least 10 companies have visited for placement for a college that is older than 5 years. Check if any single company has selected more than 40 students. Check if placements are improving over the last 3 years. For a new institution, check for placement training activities from the very first year and the contacts that the Governing Council possess.

9 College Fee CET students pay about Rs. 39,000 at CET cell. COMED-K students pay anywhere between Rs.50,000 and Rs.140,000. Management quota students pay a much higher fee compared to COMED-K fee. However, all colleges charge an additional fee that varies between Rs. 12,000 and Rs. 50,000!!! Find out what facilities will be offered for the additional fee

10 Scholarships Check for scholarships at the time of joining College based on PUC/ CET marks Find out about Scholarships / incentives available for good performance in University exams during your study.

11 Examination Results Another very important criterion. Look for the quality of students that have joined the Institution after their PUC/ 12 th Standard. Check if the performance of these students have improved over their PUC/ 12 th standard percentage. Check if results are improving over the past years. Look for the Pass percentage of the students at the University level examination. Then look for percentage of students passing with First Class Distinction and First Class. For a new college, look at the reputation built by the teaching staff over the years.

12 Remedial Coaching Not every one is bright. Some need extra coaching. Check if college conducts remedial classes for weak students by the best teachers.

13 Caring for Students and Parents Check if there is any concession in fee on the death of the earning parent. Check if there is any group insurance for students. Check if the college helps the students in securing loans to fund their education.

14 Transport Facility Makes commuting very easy and risk free. Distance will not be a problem with good transport facility.

15 Encouragement for Sports and Cultural Activities A sound mind in a sound body! Check for good infrastructure and encouragement.

16 ISO Certification and Accreditation by NBA ISO certification is possible for an Institution with one year standing. Check if college has got ISO certification. Accreditation by NBA is possible for an Institution with five years standing. Check if college has got Accreditation by NBA. They are indicators of quality.

17 Evaluate a college based on the above parameters Check to what percentage extent the college meets the requirements Then rate the college after going through Power point presentation on ‘4How_to_rank_an_Engineering_College’
