CHURCH OF CHRIST at February 7, 2010 Don’t Forget: Super Bowl get-together @ Sam and Betty’s Heb ron

Three Problems of Galatians 1-3 I.The People’s Problem II.Paul’s Problem III.Peter’s Problem

Paul’s Problem: A Problem of Past (1:13-16) Paul placed his past in proper perspective Galatians 1:13 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it

Paul’s Problem: A Problem of Past (1:13-16) Paul placed his past in proper perspective We must deal with the good and the bad –Revelation 3:1 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write…I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. –Matthew 27:5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself

Paul’s Problem: A Problem of Past (1:13-16) Paul placed his past in proper perspective We must balance between forgetting and motivation –Ephesians 3:8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ –Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind…

Paul’s Problem: A Problem of Past (1:13-16) Paul took the opportunity offered to him Galatians 1:15-16 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace, to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood

Paul’s Problem: A Problem of Past (1:13-16) Paul took the opportunity offered to him Acts 9:20 And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God Many people either: –Like their way of life too much to abandon it (John 12:42) – Carry too much guilt to take the chance given

Peter’s Problem: A Problem of Prejudice (2:11-14) Peter was too weak to do what he knew was right Galatians 2:11-14 But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed… James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Peter’s Problem: A Problem of Prejudice (2:11-14) Peter led others astray by his weakness Galatians 2:13 And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation [hypocrisy] Matthew 18:7 Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!

May we not give in to Galatia’s problems: Problems of Pressure Problems of Past Problems of Prejudice
