2 How to use this document
Questions This documents gives you a high-level guideline for the technical implementation of Business Process Monitoring in SAP Solution Manager. It does not intend to cover all setup scenarios and does not explain the details of all configuration possibilities. For details, please see the respective setup guides. 4 Where: Work Center “SAP Solution Manager Administration”
BACK Questions Call transaction SM_WORKCENTER and go to tab “SAP Solution Manager Administration”. Your user needs to have the correct roles assigned to see the tab.

5 Create Solution BACK Questions Create new solution.

6 Where: Maintain Solution
BACK Questions Call transaction SM_WORKCENTER and go to tab “Business Process Operations”. Your user needs to have the correct roles assigned to see the tab. In the following pop-up, select your solution.

7 Assign Logical Components to Solution
BACK Questions Assign the logical components to the solution in tab System Group of node via the value help. Observe that the leading role for the solution determines which of the systems contained in the logical component will be relevant for monitoring. Make sure that the component has a system assigned in the leading role. Leading Role 1. Use value help to assign system 2. Select logical component and confirm.

8 Create Business Scenario
BACK Questions Business Scenarios are created via entries in the tab Structure in node Business Scenarios. You have to set the business scenario to “Production” if you want to set up Business Process Monitoring for the processes within this business scenario. Set to ‘Production’. Enter scenario name.

9 Create Business Process
BACK Questions Business processes are created via entries in the tab Structure in node Business Processes. You have to set the business process to “Production” here if you want to set up monitoring for the process. Set to ‘Production’. Enter process name.

10 Create Business Process Step
BACK Questions Business process steps are created via entries in the tab Structure in node <process name>. To each step you have to assign the logical component where it is executed. Assign Logical Component. Enter process step name.

11 Maintain Process Graphic (1/2)
BACK Questions In node <process name> there is also a tab Component View available. This is the only place where you can change the layout and design of the process graphic. You can change size and color of the boxes and the text font. NEXT 2. Click on ‘Properties’ 3. Adjust the appearance of the box Mark the business process step and drag & drop to change the size 1. Right mouse click on the box

12 Maintain Process Graphic (2/2)
BACK Questions Process Flows (logical flows and interfaces) are created in the process graphic in node <process name> in tab Component View. The arrows in the graphic are created via right mouse click. Asynchronous lines leave or enter the step boxes at the top or bottom, synchronous lines at the sides. There is no cross relevance to the interface technique. The interface might still be assigned any interface technique, independent of its status in the graphic. 1. Right mouse click on the “sender” step. 2. Right mouse click on the “receiver” step.

13 Where: Business Process Monitoring Setup
BACK Questions Access to BPMon Setup Call transaction SM_WORKCENTER and go to tab “Business Process Operations”. Your user needs to have the correct roles assigned to see the tab. Here, select “Setup Business Process Monitoring”. In the following pop-up, select your solution.

14 Load Monitor Definitions
BACK Questions Check if the monitor definitions from your monitored system have been loaded recently. If not, load them. Go to node <solution name>  Logical Components.

15 Create Monitoring Object on Logical Component Level
BACK Questions Create monitoring objects for data collection. Note: Monitoring objects for alerting cannot be created on logical component level, but only on step level. However, all monitoring objects for the system are listed and can be maintained, generated and activated here.

16 Create Monitoring Object on Step Level 1/2
NEXT Questions Create monitoring object. Note: The monitoring object creation dialog is similar on step, interface and on logical component level.

17 Create Monitoring Object on Step Level 2/2
BACK Questions Select the monitor and provide a name. (Value help is filled according to your filter criteria) and confirm the pop-up.

18 Configure Monitoring Object 1/5
NEXT Questions After the creation of a monitoring object you can access its configuration by selecting the hyperlink for the monitoring object.

19 Configure Monitoring Object 2/5
NEXT Questions Here you can get some information on the monitor (in case of application monitoring). Select key figures …

20 Configure Monitoring Object 3/5
NEXT Questions Maintain thresholds and … … parameters.

21 Configure Monitoring Object 4/5
NEXT Questions Maintain when the data collection shall be executed … … and if data collection shall be done via sRFC or via background job

22 Configure Monitoring Object 5/5
BACK Questions You can enter additional optional configuration in these tabs that concern automatic s, incidents, documented error handling etc.

23 Generate and Activate Questions BACK
After finishing the customizing you have to generate and activate in order to start the monitoring.

In case of BPMon Setup issues that cannot be resolved with the BPMon Setup Guide, please open an SAP Incident on component SV-SMG-MON-BPM-MON.
