2 ACADEMIC QUALITY & STANDARDS TEAM 2004 –Provision of Marking Criteria –Provision of Model Answers –Provision of clear criteria for specific assessments Outcome: Clarification of list of documentation to be provided for external examiners revised template for the Code of Practice on Assessment drawing on good practice taken from a review of all the Codes.

3 2005-2006 –Introduce a systematic approach to plagiarism detection –Increase opportunities for formative assessment –Review grade descriptors for elective modules –Consideration of means by which marks for group projects are derived –Development of assessment norms ACADEMIC QUALITY & STANDARDS TEAM

4 2006-07 –Build on developments regarding feedback on assessed work –Continued monitoring of student feedback and opportunities for formative feedback –Explore the nature and benefit of feedback given to students on exam assessments –Consideration to the rigour by which students undertaking group (research) project are rewarded individually –Consider the role of the external examiner in light of a change on vivas and increased focus on module standards

5 ACADEMIC QUALITY & STANDARDS TEAM 2007- 08 Provision of consistent information within school documentation: handbooks; codes etc. e.g. Definitions: plagiarism Penalties for late submission of assessed work Review and refine assessment criteria Uniformity of feedback on assessed work

6 2008-09 Seek more effective ways to deliver feedback to students Revise sections of the CoPA and align with University policy Articulation of: –policies to students –policies to staff –marking schemes –ensure clear to students –clarify existing practice for academic discretion and moderation processes –moderation process –Assessment criteria ACADEMIC QUALITY & STANDARDS TEAM

7 Manage assessment deadlines to ensure even submission dates across the semester Consideration of assessment at the level of the programme with a view to reducing over-assessment

8 ACADEMIC QUALITY & STANDARDS TEAM Partnership Agreement Code of Practice on Assessment for Students on Taught Programmes 2. Schools must have, and update annually, a code of practice on assessment which provides clear information for students and staff on all school assessment policies and practices. 3. Schools will provide clear information on assessment requirements and deadlines for each module which, as well as being published in handbooks (or made available on the web), will be discussed with students. 5. Students will be provided with the opportunity to undertake formative assessment i.e. work which will allow students and staff to monitor performance. 6. Schools will seek to ensure, as far as possible, a reasonable spread of assessment deadlines.

9 POLICY: Each School will have in place a Code of Practice on Assessment which will be updated annually and approved each academic session by the FLTC.
