1 Organization of the Church Ephesians 4:11-12

3 Enlistment (become part)  Acts 2:38-41 Then Peter said to them, Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ to remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (39) For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all those afar off, as many as the Lord our God shall call. (40) And with many other words he earnestly testified and exhorted, saying, Be saved from this perverse generation. (41) Then those who gladly received his word were baptized. And the same day there were added about three thousand souls.

4 Enlistment (become part)  Galatians 3:27 For as many as were baptized into Christ, you put on Christ.  1 Corinthians 12:13 For also by one Spirit we are all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free, even all were made to drink into one Spirit.

6 Preachers / Ministers  Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without preaching?  1 Corinthians 9:14 “ ordained those announcing the gospel ”

7 Teachers  1 Peter 3:15 but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and be ready always to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason of the hope in you, with meekness and fear;  Hebrews 10:23 “ Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering ”

8 Elders - Established  Acts 14:23 And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.  Titus 1:5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:

9 Elders – Titles KJV  1 Timothy 3:1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.  Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

11 Elders – Titles KJV  Philippians 1:1 Paul and Timothy, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:  Acts 20:17 And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church.

12 Elders – Qualifications  Desires the office  Blameless  One wife  Temperate  Sober-minded (sensible)  Good behavior (dignified)  Hospitable  Able to teach  Not given to wine  Gentle (not violent)  Not greedy  Not quarrelsome  Rules his own house well  Submissive and respectful children  Not a recent convert  Well thought of by outsiders

13 Elders – Qualifications  Christian children who are not unruly  Steward of God  Not self-willed (or arrogant)  Not quick-tempered  Lover of goodness  Just (upright)  Holy  Self-controlled  Firm hold on God's word

14 Elders – Duties  Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

15 Elders – Duties  Acts 20:29-30 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.

16 Deacons - Appointment  Greek word meaning "servant"  Acts 6 (Act_6:1-7) The appointment of deacons.(Act_6:1-7) The appointment of deacons.

17 Deacons Philippians 1:1 Paul and Timothy, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and deacons.

18 Deacons - Qualifications 1. Good reputation 2. Full of the Holy Spirit 3. Full of wisdom 4. Reverent (serious) 5. Not double-tongued 6. Not addicted to wine 7. Not greedy for money 8. Hold faith with pure conscience 9. Found blameless 10. One wife (who is reverent, temperate, faithful, and not a slanderer) 11. Manages his own family well

19 Deacons - Duties  Acts 6:1 And in those days, the disciples having multiplied, a murmuring of the Hellenists against the Hebrews occurred, because their widows were overlooked in the daily serving.  (3) Therefore, brothers, look out among you seven men being witnessed to, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this duty.
