I would like to go to see The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. I would like to go to the International Comic Con in San Diego. I would rather go see the Macy’s Day Parade on Thanksgiving because I always wanted to see the different balloons and floats in the parade.

 I am going to drive to Little Rock.  Buy a plane ticket to New York, all round trip.  It will be about a three hour flight.

 First Choice: I’m going to stay at the Courtyard New York Manhattan/Herald Square in a room that looks over the parade, the room is $344 dollars per night.  Second Choice: I’m going to stay at the New York Hilton Midtown in the Thanksgiving Premium View Room which a person could see the whole parade from their room, but it is $1,129 per night.

 Balloons  Marching Bands  Musical Performances  Clowns  Performing Groups  Novelty Balloons  Floats  Balloonicles

 The Macy’s Day Parade started in 1924 and was called the Macy’s Christmas Parade.  The Macy’s Day Parade was started by Macy’s workers, and the parade exhibited animals from the Central Park Zoo.  The parade did not have huge, inflatable balloons until 1927 and the first balloon was of Felix the Cat.  The parade was televised locally in 1946 and nationally in 1947.  In 1946, falloons were created. “Falloon” is a term that the Macy’s Parade Studio uses that means a balloon figure on a float.

 In 1957, during a downpour, the Popeye balloon’s hat started to fill with water and pour water on spectators.  Out of all the times the parade broadcasted on TV, the event won 12 Emmys for Outstanding Achievement since 1972.  The balloons are 40 feet tall and 28 feet wide, but they can fold up into a 12- by-8 foot box to get to their places the day before the parade through the Lincoln Tunnel.  The most occurring balloon in the Macy’s parade is the Snoopy balloon which has been in 37 Macy’s parades and has had 7 different balloon versions.  The parade is little over 2 miles and stretches from 7th street to the Macy’s Herald Square and has a wide range of exciting floats to balloons.
