first tablet computer developed by Apple Inc announced on January 27, 2010. had its first launch in US on 3 April 2010. On it launch day itself, more than 300,000 Ipads were sold.

Was reported that queues for the new iPad's launch day were considerably smaller than the crowds which gathered for the iPhone's debut in July 2007. This might be due to the fact that consumers prefer the iPhone product more as it has the calling and messaging function.

Source A: Steve Jobs insists on calling the iPad "magical" and "revolutionary," but it's a device whose purpose has mystified many so far. So how will Apple explain the touch-screen e-reader/Web tablet that's being described, and in some cases derided, as "an iPod Touch on steroids," albeit one that will cost between $499 and $829? Adapted from: http://news.cnet.com/8301-31021_3-10450333- 260.html#ixzz1GSgdbe2R Source B: Queues for the new iPad's launch day were considerably smaller than the crowds which gathered for the iPhone's debut in July 2007, according to reports. On the iPhone's launch weekend in the US, it was reported that up to 525,000 phones had been sold. Adapted from: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8603599.stm

people are still sceptical about the functions of iPad not convinced that an iPad is a worthy investment since it costs around $499 to $829 the people are still unsure of what it is able to do causing a fall in demand for iPad. therefore highlights the fact of Consumer expectations.

fall in demand for iPad producers now are convinced that lesser people will buy their good leading to them lowering the price 1. can be solved by allowing people to understand the functions of the iPad ( releasing an information booklet) 2. reduce the price since they want to get rid of the iPads since it is not as profitable as they expected. this affects the pricing decisions of the producers.

As stated in source B, it showed that iPhones are much more popular than the iPads highlights the fact of price of substitutes since the iPhone and iPad have almost the same functions the iPhone is cheaper than the iPad, selling at only at $199 to $299 as compared to iPad’s $499 to $829.

producers will decrease the price of the iPad to be more competitive in demand with the iPhone affecting the pricing decision of the producer. Since producers want to sell of the iPad quickly to maximise profits it’s likely for them to reduce the price of the iPad.

Source C The two Acer Android tablets will be available in April and the Microsoft device will go on sale in February. All three will offer Wi-Fi connectivity and allow users to surf the Internet using a 3G connection. Wong said the tablets would likely be in the previously stated range of $299 to $699.Pricing for the new tablets should make them an attractive alternative to the Apple iPad. The good news for us consumers is that as more tablet computers are introduced into the market place, prices are sure to drop. 15 From the source C, Acer tablet PC is a close substitute to Ipad satisfying the same needs and wants of the consumers. Acer tablet PC are cheaper as compared to the Ipad by a significant $200 and its newer than Ipad consumers might turn to buying Acer tablet rather Ipad. quantity demanded for Acer Ipad might increase, but there will be a fall in demand for Ipad. highlights the point price of substitutes in a consumer’s point of view.

On the other hand, Apple is more established than Acer so consumers may trust the renowned name of Apple compared to Acer. the cheaper price of Acer might not change the consumer’s taste. the demand for Apple Ipad might not change in the short run. after Acer establishes its name in the market, more consumers may switch to Acer Tablet PC.
