Space-efficient. 3PAR’s remote copy is “thin provisioning aware,” meaning that with 3PAR, customers need only to purchase actual used capacity – capacity that data is actually written to – and eliminate the traditional “allocated but unused” capacity problem. This means that only the actual, used data becomes remotely copied as well. In addition, 3PAR volumes – whether the primary or remote volumes – can be used for multiple, simultaneous purposes as well, using 3PAR’s copy-on-write snapshot capability. In particular, 3PAR’s periodic mode is unique in that it replicates data using delta copy resynchronizations through differential snapshots. This approach helps to reduce data transfer amount/time, while allowing the administrator to tailor the timing and frequency of resynchronizations to meet specific bandwidth requirements.
