N. Sassaman SAMS - 2011

 VOCABULARY, VOCABULARY, VOCABULARY!!  List in notes, atomic particles, units of measurement.

 Examples of conductors, insulators  Change resistance in a wire…  Charged particles and interaction  Series vs. parallel circuits ◦ Switch placement, added bulbs and affect on current, brightness, overall resistance.  Ohm’s law (VIR relationships)

 Formulas will be given!!  Be sure to SHOW YOUR WORK! ◦ Formula ◦ Values in formula ◦ Final answer with correct units of measurement

 CIRCUITS!!  Identify series vs. parallel circuits  Know how parts of the circuit affect the whole

 Three (3) to choose from…you do ONE (1)!  Circuits – general and series vs. parallel  Conductors and insulators

- Electric Charge and Static Electricity  Charges that are the same repel each other. Charges that are different attract each other.

- Electric Charge and Static Electricity  An electric field is a region around a charged object where the object’s electric force is exerted on other charged objects.

- Electric Current  Electric current is the continuous flow of electric charges through a material. http://www.rkm.com.au/animations/animation-electrical-circuit.html http://www.rkm.com.au/animations/animation-electrical-circuit.html

- Electric Current  An electric circuit is a complete, unbroken path through which electric charges can flow.

- Electric Current  Two factors that affect the resistance of water flowing in a pipe are diameter and length. The diameter and length of a wire also affect resistance in a circuit.

http://www.teachers domain.org/asset/h ew06_int_ohmslaw/ V = I R R = V/I I = V/R

- Electric Circuits  Simple symbols are used to diagram a circuit.

- Electric Circuits  In a series circuit, there is only one path for the current to take.  Overall resistance is additive.  Dimmer lights “If one light goes out, they all go out!”

- Electric Circuits  In a parallel circuit, there are several paths for the current to take.  Each path is independent of the others.  Brightness same as if only one bulb.

- Electrical Safety  One way to protect people from electric shock and other electrical danger is to provide an alternate path for electric current.
