Poetic Devices One Thing by: One direction
By: Rowan MacLeod and Adamari Luna

Metaphor Shot me out of the sky You're my kryptonite You keep making me weak Yeah, frozen and can't breathe The metaphor in this stanza is “you’re my kryptonite.” In this line he is comparing a girl to kryptonite. People and kryptonite are not usually two things that are compared.

True Rhyme So get out, get out, get out of my head And fall into my arms instead I don't, I don't, don't know what it is But I need that one thing And you've got that one thing In this stanza, the words head and instead create a true rhyme.

True Rhyme Now I'm climbing the walls But you don't notice at all That I'm going out of my mind All day and all night In this stanza, walls and all were rhymed.

Refrain So get out, get out, get out of my head And fall into my arms instead I don't, I don't, don't know what it is But I need that one thing And you've got that one thing This stanza is repeated in the song multiple times. It is called the chorus or a refrain.

Hyperbole Something’s gotta give now 'Cause I'm dying just to know your name And I need you here with me now 'Cause you've got that one thing “’Cause I’m dying just to know your name” is a hyperbole because you can’t literally die from not knowing someone’s name.

Alliteration Something’s gotta give now 'Cause I’m dying just to make you see That I need you here with me now 'Cause you've got that one thing The repetition of the “n” sound in the words “need” and “now” create alliteration.
