Bundling: Putting smaller units together to make a larger one, e.g. putting 10 tens together to make a hundred Regrouping: Renaming, (instead of “carrying” or “borrowing,”) e.g., a group of 10 ones is “renamed” a ten when the ones are bundled and moved from the ones to the tens place

9 Area Model An array or area model is an arrangement of a set of objects organized into equal groups in rows and columns. Arrays or area models help make counting easy in the lower grades. Counting by equal groups is more efficient than counting objects one by one. Later, children use arrays and area models to learn about multiplication and area.
