Copying Profiles in EBSCOadmin Tutorial support.ebsco.com

EBSCOadmin gives you the ability to copy the existing profiles of your EBSCO interfaces. Copying saves you time because it enables you to duplicate all of the databases and customization options of an existing profile and then adjust the settings of your new profile as necessary.

For example, EBSCO Discovery Service administrators may use this feature in conjunction with Discipline Limited Searching to create subject-specific profiles that allow users to search for content that is limited to predetermined subjects.

From the Customize Services tab in EBSCOadmin, click the Profile Maintenance link.

Click on the Copy Profiles link.

Select the profile that you would like to copy using the Group and Description drop-down menus in the Source Profile area. Then, select the Group to which you would like to copy the profile and enter an ID for your new profile in the Target Profile area. In this example, we are making a copy of the main EDS profile to create a new one that specifically searches EDS for content related to the science discipline.

When copying a profile, you can select which parameters you would like copied to the new profile. This can include default search screen, discipline limited searching settings, text-to-speech, and more. Select the individual parameters you wish to copy, or simply click the Select All button to select all parameters. Then click Submit at the bottom of the screen.

Once the profile is created, click Close to return to the Profile Maintenance screen.

The next step is to configure the Discipline Limited Search settings to limit users’ searches to subjects of your choice. On the Searching sub-tab, click the Modify link to the right of Configure Discipline Limited Searching.

Set the radio button to On for any of the desired disciplines that apply to your new profile and click Submit.

If desired, you can use the Profile Maintenance options to rename your profile or make additional copies and limit them to different subjects.

For more information or assistance with the options available in EBSCOadmin, contact Customer Support or visit the EBSCO Support Site. You can also click the Help link to view the complete online User Guide.
