1 Global Human Resource Management: Project Details

2 Course Objective To appreciate & understand the dynamics of intra & inter cultural aspects of orgs To create awareness about the inter-cultural paradigms for the post modern mgrs/ leaders To develop competencies for managing HR in culturally diverse contexts To manage & build new OC to deal effectively with cross-cultural issues

3 What GHRM/CCM is about GHRM is not just another mgt function, on a par with mkt, finance, operation or personnel, but is far deeper & wider, affecting potentially every aspects of business How cultural norms & values influence the attitudes & beh of indiv at work & hence how the various functions need to be ‘managed’ in difft cultures Aim is not so much to turn u into expatriate mgr, but to give u the awareness & skills to deal with cultural differences wherever & whenever they occur

4 Course Project The course project will be group project.
Class members will form project groups of three students. If possible, each project group should have a mix of members from difft cultural backgrounds so that group will be heterogeneous as far as possible. Once groups have been formed, the instructor should be consulted for the choice of the topic. (However students are encouraged to propose their own topics) When topics have been chosen, each group should meet the instructor individually to discuss their plans for the project.

5 Potential topics for the course project
The project group selects a culture (country) for investigation. Care should be taken to first understand the culture by itself, without being concerned about its impact on mgt. Once this has been done, an investigation of mgt practices in the culture being studied, should be carried out. The group will then produce a written report giving an overview of the political & economic situation of the country studied and documenting the artifacts of the culture, its traditions, & its norms & values, & indicating how societal culture helps to explain the business traditions & practices within the culture ( country) being studied.

6 Potential topics for the course project
Project duplication in the class should be avoided. The project should describe in depth the issue being studied, the history preceding it, the cultural aspects which influence it & the culture/ s involved. The report should educate the reader/ listener about the issue or phenomenon which has being studied & about the cultures involved. This having been done, a cultural analysis should be carried out which explains why the event/ s are happening as they are.

7 Potential topics for the course project
Potential topics might include A description of cross cultural HRM issues of Indian MNC post acquisition A case study of cultural problems in a foreign subsidiary of a MNC, or
