2 Definition Science does: study of the problems of the natural world that can be understood by using the processes of science. Science does not: have the answers to all of the questions in the universe, or the solutions to all human problems  Art  Philosophy  Religion  Technology Discussion with teammates, take notes: What are they? Why would people confuse them?

3 Science is based on 6 things!!! Consistent:  Performed/repeated by competent investigators  1. Green plants will grow towards the sun  2. Walking under a ladder will cause a bad luck Observable:  Event being studied can be observed and explained  senses  1. Some plants eat meat  2. Extraterrestrial beings have visited Earth Natural:  Natural cause must be used to explain why or how the naturally occurring events.  1. Green plants convert sunlight into energy  2. Ms. P grades based on your energy color aura

4 Con’t CONPTT Predictable:  Natural causes explained by specific predictions  HYPOTHESIS!!!  1. Without sunlight green plants will die.  2. If you are a Scorpio, then your horoscope for today is… Testable:  Can be tested through the processes of science  SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY (METHOD)  1. The Bermuda Triangle causes ships and planes to sink  Life comes from life and cannot come from non-life. Tentative:  Scientific theories can be changed and revised.  Can be proved WRONG!  List 3 theories in science that have changed!!!!
