The DPSIR framework in analyzing and addressing flood The case of Belém / Pará / Brazil. Figura 01: Location of City the Belém-Pará-Brazil

Figure 02,a: As Belém is located at the bordes of river. Figure 02,b: Simulation the river level 4 meters above than the actual level

Figure 04 : Flooding event in Belém_PA Source(Sadeck, 2011, Pegado 2011 e 0 Liberal 2011).

The DPSIR model was created by European Environmental Agency (EEA) Figure 05: The DPSIR framework, in a decisional context. Source: Giupponi, 2009.

Driving force- Are Indirect causes Belém city Hydrologic cycle Source: (FARIAS, 2011). Population growth 1.400.000,00 Source: (IBGE/IDESP, 2012).

The pressures are direct causes The first track 1 should not have habitation, the second can with average risk and third is permitted for habitation. Pressures

State The pressure cause a state Flood area: problems for rivers runoff, topography, water level, tidal regime the presence of houses along the rivers make difficult the flow of the river

Impact – generate losses Vulnerability: Leaving the city vulnerable to flooding In figure have several points of flooding.

IMPACTS ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY FEEDBACK Policy Maker For the reason, it is necessary to Analise the factors through the DPSIR Models and obtain an answer to this impact, considering the environmental quality.

Response Then, the response to the flood problem should be ➢ Flood control measures; ➢ Structural measures; ➢ Non-structural measures; ➢ Economic evaluation measures for flood.

The results indicated that the main indicators are: Force: geography and geomorphologia locatian, urban expasian. These elements generate as pressure and state flooding and material and human losses. The better response are engineering woks and preparation of a Master Plan. The model concluded that Belém has high vulnerability and risk of flooding. CONCLUSIONS

Thank You !!!!!
