Introduction UCS first introduced interprofessional learning (IPL) into the pre-registration curriculum in 2004 The student groups included were: –Child health nursing –Mental health nursing –Adult nursing –Social work –Midwifery –Operating department practice –Diagnostic radiography –Therapeutic radiography

3. Introduction There are three IPL modules: –Year 1 – The Professional Person –Year 2 – The Service User –Year 3 – The Organisation This presentation focusses on the journey of three members of the staff (the authors) and their personal journey from the start of IPL to the present time

4. Methods We were all involved in discussing how we felt together and were able to share our own personal experiences of the planning and delivery of the IPL modules at UCS The reflective discussion was based on Johns’ model for structured reflection (Johns, 1993) A thematic analysis was carried out by the researchers to draw out common themes from the data

5. The researchers/participants Dr Ruth Strudwick – Senior Lecturer, diagnostic radiography. Involved in IPL at the start as a lecturer and marker and now IPL programme leader and module leader for year 3 IPL module Dr Jane Day – Head of Division, Therapeutic radiography. Managed the IPL programme since its inception in 2004. Jane Harvey-Lloyd – Senior Lecturer, diagnostic radiography. Part of the IPL course team at the inception of IPL, therefore heavily involved in the curriculum development. Module team member of the year 1 IPL module

8. Conclusions The different professions have learnt and continue to learn from each other (students and staff) IPL remains challenging both for staff and students Engaging others is a continuous process If you want something to succeed you have to continually work at it
