2. 2 Goals of Testing l Sun wanted to design an external homepage l Wanted to see if users: –know that this is the homepage of Sun Microsystems (identification of the web-site) –know that the information provided on the site is accurate, reliable, and updated frequently/regularly –can find specific information (e.g., articles or answers to questions) on the site quickly and easily –see the site as aesthetically pleasing and enjoyable

3. 3 The Process l Test participants were asked to: –interact with and explore a paper-based homepage on their own for about ten minutes –identify the first things that they noticed as they began to explore (what caught their attention) –provide their initial impressions of the web-site –find specific information on the web-site (i.e., test participants were sent on treasure hunts) l Measures collected during test –think aloud protocol –comments, actions, behaviors, facial expressions, etc. l Testing environment –usability labs at Sun
