2 The CFP course (Alger 105) The CFP certification exam preparation class consists of 10 separate 4-hour classes over a twelve week period. The course aims to prepare students to sit for the CFP (Certified Financial Planner) Certification Exam. Test materials and practice questions will provide a focused review of commonly tested areas such as General Principles of Financial Planning, Insurance Planning and Risk Management, Employee Benefits Planning, Investment Planning, Income Tax Planning, Retirement Planning, and Estate Planning. About the instructor Professor Jeanne Haser of the. Accounting/CIS Dept. at RI College will lead the class. A graduate of Suffolk University Law School, Jeanne has a Masters in Taxation and Bachelors in Business Administration (accounting) from Bryant University. She has been a CPA in RI since 1982, and has taught accounting, tax, business law and financial planning classes in the undergraduate and graduate programs at RIC as well other area colleges for 25 years. She has also worked in financial services organizations (Citigroup Smith Barney, Price Waterhouse and others) throughout her career. 3 About the Instructor Dr. Abbas Kazemi is an..Associate Professor of Finance at Rhode Island College. Dr. Kazemi is also a CFA Charterholder who has been helping his students succeed in passing various levels of the CFA Exams. Dr. Kazemi has the knowledge and experience to help his students master the most important CFA® learning outcomes and give them the skills and the confidence they need to pass their exam. With current industry pass rates for the CFA Level I exam at 35-40 percent, it is the objective of both the School of Management and Dr. Kazemi to help every student who takes our course pass their exam the first time they write. This is an innovative course offered through the School of Management at Rhode Island College. The intensive 10-week course runs from August 2009 to November 2009 and has been designed with the sole purpose of preparing students to pass the CFA level I Exam. The cost is $799 for a 10-week program plus instructional materials of approximately $300 Review Course Details (Alger 107) This course prepares students to write the first of the three CFA exams that must be passed for an individual to become a CFA Charterholder. A tentative course outline includes: Week 1-3: Ethical and Professional Standards, Quantitative Methods, and Economics Week 4-7: Financial Statement Analysis and Corporate Finance Week 8-10: Portfolio Management, Analysis of Equity Investments, Analysis of Fixed Income Investments, Analysis of Derivative Investments and Analysis of Alternative Investments. 4 About the Series 7 course (Alger 109) This course prepares you for the Series #7 General Securities Registered Representative Examination (the “Series 7 Exam”). Students typically take this exam shortly after the class is over. The goal of the course is to provide the students with necessary tools to succeed in the exam. To this end, we will thoroughly review the material that is tested, focusing more on the topics that carry more weight (options, municipal securities, and regulations). We will also continually have practice tests and quizzes to improve test taking skills and familiarize students with the material. About the instructor: The course will be taught by Murat Aydogdu who is an Assistant Professor of Finance at Rhode Island College. He has taught Series 7 preparation courses for several semesters in the past (and has taken the exam himself). He has also taught other Finance courses over the last several years. He holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Iowa.
