4 Microphotograph of a thin section. The colours of different grains are produced due to Birefringence(Double refraction).

5 To fit ellipses to grains a clear idea about grain boundary is necessary.

6 Strain Measurement Magnitude of deformation is a marker of strain. Hence to measure strain we have to measure ellipse parameters, namely Major and Minor Axes and orientation. Ellipse parameters are obtained by fitting ellipses to grains.
