3. 2 INTRODUCTION Northwest of the province of Jaén is found Linares Linares has its historic foundation in the old city of Cástulo. It has a population of 61.000 inhabitants and an important commercial and industrial activity. The present economy of Linares is the industry, the commerce and the services.

5. 4 CLIMATE Its climate is mild-warm Mediterranean with cool winters and warm summers. The annual rainfall is about 650mm and the annual temperature is about 15,5 ºC.

7. 6 SIGHTSEEING House Museum Andrés Segovia There are varied objects and belongings of Andrés Segovia: guitars, discography, musical works… Also, there is an extensive file about the press of many countries, pictures, photographs, drawings, placards…

8. 7 Archaeological Museum This important museum, founded by Don Rafael Contreras de la Paz, collects the pieces originating in the city of Cástulo. This museum has important pieces Phoenicians and Greeks too.

9. 8 Santa María’s Church This church was built on an old mosque, during the centuries XIII to XV. In the century XVI the temple was expanded but the constructions were suspended in 1579 for lack of budget.

10. 9 Virgin of Linarejos’s Sanctuary One of the most important monuments of Linares is the Virgin of Linarejos's Sanctuary, patroness of the city. During the civil War the building was set fire but in 1950 new dependences were added.

11. 10 Hospital of the Marquis It’s a building of red brick and stone of style newgothic. At present the building is a health centre and a residence of elderlies.

12. 11 Cástulo's Ruins Cástulo’s Ruins are situated near the river Guadalimar. More attractive places to visit are the Necrópolis, the north sector of the wall and the remains of the Arabian castle.

13. 12 ENTERTAINMENT During all the year, in Linares are celebrated numerous cultural activities in the spectacular Cervantes theater:

14. 13 International Meeting of Guitar "City of Linares" Andrés Segovia In this "Meeting" there are important people of the guitar's world and it's consist of a competition, some courses and a lot of concerts.

15. 14 Competition of Piano "City of Linares" Marisa Montiel It was set in 1978 and organized by the City Hall of Linares. It's one of the most prestigious competition of our country.

16. 15 National Competition of Tarantas This competition is celebrated since 1964. It's organized by the City Hall. It's a flamenco event of prestige where there are important flamenco singers.

17. 16 International Tournament of Chess In this tournament enter the twelve or fourteen more important chess players of the present moment. The acts are used to celebrating in the Hotel Aníbal. The committee organizer is constituted by the City Hall.

18. 17 San Augustine’s Fair We can see in this fair a lot of things: theatrical works, musical actions, game shows, expositions, Taranta's competitions and the bullfighting festival.

19. 18 Bowling Linares This place of leisure is situated very near the center of the city. It is the biggest of the province and its facilities have a bowling alley where are disputed important tournaments.

20. 19 La Garza It’s a sports park of 400.000 square metres approximately. It has many facilities: football pitch, rugby pitch, tennis pitch, golf course, sports building indoor and bar-café.

21. 20 FOOD AND DRINK The gastronomy linarense is very delicious and varied. In the elaboration of the dishes, is very frequent the use of the olive oil that enhances the flavour of casseroles and salads.
