3 3 Chancellor’s Advisory Group on Educational Planning Charge October 25, 2007 To better position the University as a central player in addressing the critical needs currently facing public education in the South Coast region and create the potential for new synergies and stronger impacts by: Improve Programmatic Efficiencies Enhance Collaboration and Communication Spur Growth (students, programs and sponsored projects) Strengthen Initiatives with External Partners in the Region

4 4 School of Education, Public Policy and Civic Engagement Vision Committed to addressing the intellectual, economic and social challenges of Southeastern Massachusetts Pairing ground breaking cross-disciplinary inquiry, teaching, learning and research with civic engagement To help shape innovative public policy, provide leadership in educational practice, and enhance the educational attainment of the SouthCoast region

5 5 School of Education, Public Policy and Civic Engagement Interdisciplinary School Education - Not an isolated activity Cross-fertilization: Academic Units, Disciplines and Professions, Faculty and Reflective Practitioners, and students Link Civic Engagement, Public Policy and Education Programs designed with a combination of scientific analysis, real world experiences and application of critical resources to problems faced by the region
