2 Overview WILPF is the oldest women’s peace organization in the world Founded in 1915, Hague, Netherlands 1300 women in Europe and N. America came together in Congress of Women to protest WWI WILPF is Non- Governmental Organization with National Sections in 37 Countries Its international Secretariat is based in Geneva with a NY UN office. Funded by membership fees, subscriptions to publications, and individual donations

5 Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security Resolution 1325 was passed unanimously on 31 Oct. 2000 First resolution ever passed by the Security Council addressing the impact of war on women and women’s contributions to conflict resolution and sustainable peace

6 Who’s Responsible in Implementing Resolution 1325 UN System: Secretariat- Chief Administrator of the UN, Office of Legal Affairs, Inter-Agency on Women and Gender Equality and The Department of Peacekeeping Operations, to name a few National Level: national action plans, policy and mechanisms by committees with oversight, analysis and recommendations Non-State Actors: Coalitions and Networks

9 Building a Culture of Peace We are politically diverse, culturally rich, financially strained. United to be visible to have an influence on micro and macro policies in our interconnected world, requiring activity at all levels in order to achieve specific goals within a framework of an agreed program, contributing to the whole international effort.
