The Deity of Christ The Godhead—Part 3

Many Question the Deity of Christ They refer to the follow Scriptures:  John 14:28: “My Father is greater than I.”  Col. 1:15: “…the firstborn over all creation.”  Luke 22:42: “Not My will, but Yours, be done.”  Heb. 5:7: “…offered up prayers…to Him who was able to save Him from death…”  Heb. 5:8: “though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience…”

Many Question the Deity of Christ None of these passages deny the Deity of Christ, they only help us understand His role in the Godhead. It is because of misunderstanding of these Scriptures that some deny Christ’s Deity (2 Pet. 3:16). We will see where His Deity is affirmed in Scripture, and examine these texts that we may know the truth.

Colossians 2:9 “In Him dwells the fullness of the Godhead bodily.”  From where we get the term “Godhead”— having the nature of God.  This nature of being God is attributed to Jesus.  More on this later.

O.T. Prophesied of the Deity of Christ Isa. 9:6: “Unto us a Son is given…and His name shall be called…Mighty God…” Ps. 110:1: “The Lord said to My Lord” (Matt. 22:41-45). Ps. 102: 24-27: “O my God…of old You laid the foundations of the earths” (Heb. 1:8, 10-12). Mic. 5:2: “Whose goings forth are from old, from everlasting” (Matt. 2:6).

Jesus Affirms His Deity John 8:57-59: “Before Abraham was, I AM” (Ex. 3:14) John 5:16-18: “…God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.” Rev. 1:8: “I am…the Almighty”

N.T. Affirms the Deity of Christ “In Him dwells”: dwell, reside, house permanently. “the fullness”: That of which a thing is full, completion. “of the Godhead”: The state or quality of being God. “bodily”: in His body. Colossians 2:9

N.T. Affirms the Deity of Christ The Complete State or Quality of Being God

N.T. Affirms the Deity of Christ John 1:1-3: “…the word was God.”  Not: “a god” (NWT), but “Theos, een ho Logos,” lit. “God, was the Word”  “a god” changes original-it is an addition. John 1:14: “and the Word became flesh.” Gal. 4:23: “born according to the flesh.” Phil. 2:7-8: “taking the form of a bondservant…being in appearance as a man.” The Godhead dwells in Him bodily.

Heaven N.T. Affirms the Deity of Christ Father Word Became flesh, Dwelt among us John 1:14 Took the form of a bondservant Phil. 2:6-7 In this bodily form, He retained the fullness of the Godhead! John 1:1 Col. 2:9 Holy Spirit

N.T. Affirms the Deity of Christ Matt. 1:23: “God with us.” John 20:28: “My Lord and my God.” Titus 2:13: “…our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.” Heb. 1:8: “Your throne, O God, is forever…”
