New exposure NuMI-MINERvA plan and schedule... Vittorio Exposure plan Gina reported about PoT of NuMI She will provide PoT corresponds to PEANUT exposure period. Giovanni and Komatsu made a review of Scanning system we have. Two main analysis scheme is reported, One is SFT based analysis and the other is general scan. Then we discussed work sharing between US side and Japan and Europe side.

PEANUT period

Situation of PEANUT analysis Before last December, works in each lab was not synchronized. –We re-form PEANUT analysis working group to work for physics output. –Regular meeting (video link) is scheduled. We decided to do PEANUT analysis in OPERA frame work at least for all labs. –CS(PL2 and 2) scanning –Scanback First phase : SFT matching required Second phase : All CS tracks Non-bias analysis, apart from OPERA

Conclusion 17 bricks under analysis in Europe (about 1000 events expected) Emulsion to SFT alignment performed for the majority of them The scan-back has been performed in a few bricks only Different criteria have been used: SFT triggers, SFT- emulsion matching and volume around the stopping point to be scanned (skewed, how many, etc..) Unification of all the cuts is ongoing: trigger conditions, SFT matching criteria and volume scanning standardized After a quick revision of the analysis, it will be possible to merge all the data

Residual of Emulsion track to hits of directory below plane This showed residual. extension emulsion track to below SFT plane. Select tracks matching with SFT trigger as Rock Muon type by eyes. y x x y 2 3 mm If matching is real, its residual will be into 500  m. mm

summary Now looking for good separation parameter. One is below SFT plane hits. This selection power is very good. Bud SFT link efficiency is effected by SFT efficiency. So, other selection parameter will be needed for efficiency.

Reconstruction of neutrino interactions in PEANUT in general scanning (unbiased) mode Giovanni De Lellis on behalf of Andrea Russo Naples University

Scanning areas All 57 plates have been general scanned: 5.55 x 4.30 cm^2 = 23.9cm^2 General scanning mode Measured density of aligned base-tracks: 4 base-track / mm 2 (transportation order) 0.7 base-track / mm 2 (assembly order) 38 plates have been general scanned: 11.1 x 4.30 cm^2 = 47.8 cm^2

Conclusions A volume of 413 cm 3 (58% of the brick volume) was general scanned in one PEANUT brick Detailed single brick Monte Carlo simulation of PEANUT used to define a procedure to identify neutrino interactions 24 neutrino interactions with SFT matching have been identified in the volume After the efficiency correction, we estimate (44 ± 9) neutrino interactions happening in the volume Good agreement with the number of expected events (43 ± 7) computed from the flux 8 events with larger multiplicity found without any match with the SFT (6 with 3 tracks, 1 with 4 and 1 with 9 tracks)

NetScan for BL118 PEANUT meeting @ Fermilab 22-23/Jan/2007

Possibility of non-bias analysis Naples already did full scanning for one brick. –Giovanni’s report Pilot analysis of BL118 NetScan is started. –5x5 25cm 2 area is scanned by SUTS Today I report first 21 plate data. We used base track for NetScan framework –For the first attempt. –How much we can reduce scanning power is next subject.

Alignment in exposure Virtual erasing is applied –3,530,479 base track remains for 21 plate. –Right table shows number of base tracks for each plate. –Still large amount of junk base track is there. 25 Summary Apart from OPERA, NetScan is good method to perform non-bias neutrino interaction analysis. –Especially for electron neutrino location. NetScan with SUTS is feasible. –But, currently noise track density is bit too high to do clean analysis.SUTS scanning should be well tuned. –Also, cut applied for base track is too tight.Should be revised.

Discussion for paper We agree on two types of output –SFT track based scanback. –General scan to detect electron neutrino flux. US provide PoT and SFT-MINOS matching information soon. –Komatsu (Luca) provide list of SFT 3D tracks. Already sub-sample matching has done in year ago. One target date to make summary is mid April (MINOS-meeting is scheduled)

Location of MINERvA

Schedule of various MINER A detectors… Calibration DB Slow Controls, Monitoring Core Reconstruction Software Neutrino Beam Simulations, Measurements Detector Simulation “Real” DAQ (From December 2006 Miner a collaboration meeting)

Possibility of new exposure There is interference between PEANUT and MINERvA. –MINERvA installation will start on end of 2007 –Summer shutdown is foreseen in June or July. –PEANUT detector should move to somewhere before MINERvA installation start. Komatsu propose possible configuration for new exposure with lighter brick (not OPERA brick). –T952 second run needs some paper works to be approved.
