5 Purpose of three of the tools Select a rectangular area Add text to the image Draw a rectangle Experiment — what do each of the others do? (If you do not see the toolbox, give the Windows > Tools command).

6 Experiment Play around. You can undo any changes you make in the History window. (If you do not see the history window, give the Windows > History command). Ctrl-z undoes the last command. Ctrl-y redoes the last command. ————

7 The status line: describes the selected tool Tool description with a help hintImage size Cursor location (0, 0 is the upper left hand corner) For example: status line for the Rectangular Selection tool: Tip: watch the status line as you work

8 These change as you make the selection. You can adjust selections one pixel at a time using the arrow keys. The status line changes as you work Status line while making a selection:

9 Rotate an image Image > Rotate

10 View menu Changing the view does not alter the image, just what you see while working on it.

11 Adjusting contrast Adjustments > Brightness/contrast

12 Immediate feedback – high contrast

13 Immediate feedback – low contrast

14 Apply the ink sketch effect Effects > Artistic > Ink sketch

15 Resize an image Image > Resize If you check Maintain aspect ratio, changing either the width or height automatically adjusts the other.

16 Resizing without maintaining the aspect ratio will distort the image
