3. GETTYSBURG  Before the civil war Gettysburg was a sleepy town in Pennsylvania. After the civil war almost everyone knew about it because it changed the war.

4. How did the battle begin?  On the first day of the battle the southern or confederate general Robert E. Lee attacked the union or the north from the west. The two union generals he fought that day were generals Buford and Reynolds. That evening the confederates charged and the union fled to the town.

5. What were the key moments to the battle? Little Round Top, On the second day of the battle, the confederates tried to take a important hill called Little Round Top. They could have won the war if they had gotten it but the union got there rite before them. The confederates attacked up the hill. After a wile the union was running out of ammo and men. So the union had to charge down the hill swinging like a door.

6. Picket’s charge  On the last day,the confederates general Robert E. Lee asked general pickett to do a charge. Now this was very hard because they were out numbered. He said “yes” The confederates fired cannons to loosen them up. But it didn't do much. The confederates got slaughtered! All three of picketts generals died.

7. What happened after the battle?  General Robert E. lee took his men back to Virginia and the war continued for two more years. Between 46,000 and 51,000 Americans were killed, wounded or lost in the three-day battle. In November of 1863, President Lincoln came to Gettysburg to dedicate the battlefield and the cemetery. He gave one of the most famous speeches ever called the Gettysburg Address
