WIRELESS CONNECTIONS IrDA Bluetooth WAP - GPRS

IrDA  I nfrared D ata A ssociation founded 1993

What is IrDA? I nfrared D ata A ssociation low cost low power half dublex support  walk up  point to point

IrDA Executive Summary IrDA standarts suppot a board range of computing communications consumer devices

IrDA’s Role IrDA is playing an important role in wireless data communication...  laptop computers  PDAs  digital cameras  mobile phones

IrDA’s Possibilaties  sending a documentation  exchanging business cards  coordinating schedules and telephone books  sending faxes

IrDA’s Modules  (SIR) 115.2 Kbps  (FIR) FAst Infrared Standart 4Mbit/sn  (VFIR) Very Fast Infrared Standart 16Mbit/sn

IrDA Stack The IrDA protocol consist manily of three diffrent layers:

Physical Layer  first layer from bottom up in hierarchical stack  deals directly with bit encoding error checking and correction transmiting and receiving data

Link Access Protocol (IrLAP)  second layer on hierarchical stack  uses services provided by physical layer  defines services provided by the protocol  sets vocabulary, encoding and procedures rules

Link Management Protocol (IrLMP)  support walk-up and point to point connection between IrDA devices  provides and supports for multiple software applications  allows entities to operate independently

IrDA and Future Works  support higher baud rates for faster transmissions  apply low-power features

IrDA’s Advantages  prevalence

IrDA’s Disadvantages  short range  high risk of defect  not to talk

Bluetooth It’s that Simple Bluetooth wireless technology makes your world wireless and gives you the freedom explore.

Bluetooth

Why is the technology called bluetooh?  Danish king Herald “Bluetooth” Blaatand who unified Danmark and Norway.  Founded 1994 by Ericsson

Bluetooth  high levels of security  robustness  low power  low cost

Bluetooth can provide consumers  make calls  eliminate cables  set up home networks  call home from a remote location

How is Bluetooth used?  bluetooth can be used a wirelessly  cable replecement technology  automatically synchronizing  access a network

Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology Benefits  globally available  range of devices  ease of use  globally accepted specification  secure connection

Devices That Use Bluetooth  Digital cameras  Printers  Scanners  Cell phones  Laptops  Keyboard and mice  İn – car handsfree kits
