1 Jackson Community College Atkinson Library Research Databases

2 JCC students have access to a wide array of resources and databases through the Internet. The databases contain journal article citations and, in many cases, the full-text of articles.

3 Some contain additional materials, such as eBooks, book excerpts and newspaper articles. To access these resources, visit the Library website, http://www.jccmi.edu/InfoTech/LRC http://www.jccmi.edu/InfoTech/LRC

4 From the website main menu, select Research Databases. Passwords are required when using the databases off- campus. These can be obtained by visiting or emailing the Library or by calling the Library Reference Desk, emailing 517-796-8622 Click here

5 WilsonSelectPlus- This database- one of the FirstSearch set- contains full-text articles in science, humanities, education and business. It is a great place to start researching, as it covers a broad range of topics. Click here to start searching.

6 WilsonSelect- a database of journal articles- is one of many databases available in FirstSearch. Others include ► ERIC for teacher education ► Medline and CINAHL for medical topics ► WorldCat for books and audio/video material The database you select will be displayed here.

7 InfoTrac This system provides access to a collection of databases- most with full text, covering general interest, health care, and ancestry as well as newspapers. There are 18 InfoTrac databases from which to choose.

8 ► Select InfoTrac OneFile for scholarly, academic research in the social sciences, sciences, and humanities. ► For health related research, select Health Reference Center Academic. ► General Reference Center Gold is another option which is also academic in nature. Each database is briefly described.

9 ProQuest online information service provides access to thousands of current periodicals and newspapers, many updated daily and containing full-text articles from 1986. Deep backfiles of archival material are also expanding daily. Databases include Nursing Criminal Justice

10 NetLibrary An e-book system, NetLibrary provides access to a collection of digital versions of print books and eBooks. Many of these are not available in hard copy. Digital full-text versions of books such as reference works, scholarly monographs, literature and fiction

12 Issues and Controversies@ FACTS.com is an online source of up-to-date, in-depth and objective information on the most prominent and hotly debated issues of the day. Full hyperlinking among all Issues & Controversies articles gives access to the most recent information

13 Issues & Controversies @ FACTS.com combines authoritative factual analysis, covering clear explanations of opposing points of view. I&C offers a list of research topics for those who would like assistance selecting a subject.

14 Students and Faculty conducting literature research, also known as literary criticism, have access to three specialized databases through JCC's Library.

16 Children's Literature Comprehensive Database (CLCD) This database is provided through Jackson District Library. ► Provides a wealth of information related to Children's Literature, including book lists, book reviews, information on authors, lesson plans and links to web resources. Searchable by title, author, and genre. ► Helpful resource for parents, teachers and students. teachers and students.

17 Literature Research Center This database is provided through Jackson District Library. ► Contains biographies of world authors and criticism of their writings from the Gale collection of literature reference books. ► The link for this database takes users to the Jackson District Library website. At the JDL site, select Online Resources and follow the directions for accessing sites from Home or Office. ► This database includes several sources of information, including author profiles, bibliographies, work overviews, and criticism. Many entries are full-text and include graphics.

18 Facts on File’s History Database Center is a set of comprehensive and authoritative reference databases. 19 Access to Newspapers Online InfoTrac provides JCC users with access to a wide selection of newspapers, including national titles, such as the New York Times and the Washington Post, and state titles like the Grand Rapids Press. Clicking here takes you right into the InfoTrac set of newspapers.

22 Begin browsing e-journals by subject by selecting a broad topic area and clicking Select. The list of subjects displays here, and will link to more specific sub-topics.

23 Selecting a subtopic allows you to see which journals contain information you can use. This example shows 5 journals with information on visual impairments.

24 The journal titles and the dates of coverage are displayed. A new window will open when you select a database containing your chosen journal.
