6 6 Pegs Keeps the violin strings tuned Violin strings are E, A, D, G E string is thinnest and highest pitched G string is the thickest and lowest pitched

7 7 The body Scroll is connected to body of the violin through the neck Rainbow shaped part of violin is the Upper Bouts Bouts on the side are the “C” bouts The holes shaped like the cursive “f” are called F holes

8 8 The strings The second thickest string on the violin is which string? A. E string B. A string C. D string D. G string

9 9 The strings Strings are wound around pegs in the peg box and are strung over the bridge and connected to the tailpiece through fine tuners. Fine tuners help to tune the violin when it is slightly out of tune rather than using the pegs to tune.

10 10 Chinrest The chinrest keeps the chin from rubbing on the top of the violin. Many different types of chinrests to match the players chin and neck

11 11 Violin range Violin can play in lower register as well as higher register

12 12 Tuning the violin There are two different way to tune the violin. What two ways can be used to tune the violin whether it is slightly out of tune or very badly out of tune?

13 13 The bow The bow size varies to match the violin size. The stick can be made of either wood, fiberglass or carbon fiber The frog is made of ebony

14 14 The bow The pad usually is made of rubber or leather. Winding/grip is silver wire or synthetic material Bow is tightened and loosened with the screw to make the hair more stiff to be able to draw a bow back and forth
