2 Action 1 - Structure and contents of the course -Check of sources, of available materials and of any possible tool already produced with respect to the course content; -Outline of each course unit; -Selection of exercises and of practical cases for analysis; -On-line launch of the course.

3 The structure of the course will be organised in 3 MODULES, each one made up of 6 UNITS. The last part of the course will be a 2 days long FACE-TO-FACE- SESSION: MODULE 1 - HIGHER EDUCATION SYSTEMS MODULE 2 - JOINT PROGRAMMES & HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS MODULE 3 - JOINT PROGRAMMES AND RECOGNITION PROCEDURES FACE-TO-FACE SESSION Action 1 – Course structure

4 1.1 Characteristics of Higher Education systems Different models (i.e. Humboldt, Anglo-Saxon, Napoleonic etc.); diversified / non-diversified secondary education; unitary / binary system; cycles and levels; grading and credit systems. 1.2 Terminology in the Higher Education context Similar names but different meanings: qualifications (i.e. Baccalauréat and Bachelor; Licenciaat and Licence etc.) and institutions (i.e. college, institute, high school etc.); translation problems and solutions; joint programmes vs joint degrees. 1.3 Higher Education Institutions: university and non-university sector Unitary and binary systems and different institutions; accredited courses and unrecognised institutions; recognised institutions and unaccredited courses; diploma mills. 1.4 Diplomas and Degrees: Qualifications Frameworks Level and cycles (EQF, Bologna, ISCED); NQF, EQF and QF - EHEA; professional and academic qualifications; qualification details (duration, workload, rights etc.). 1.5 Higher Education in Emerging Countries: Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRICs) 1.6 Information resources on Higher Education systems Module 1 - Higher Education Systems

5 Module 2 - Joint programmes & HEIs 2.1 Characteristics of joint programmes Core elements of joint programmes and problems during the development of a JP. 2.2 Nature and typologies of joint qualifications Joint, double and multiple degrees; different HEIs and jont degrees; good practices. 2.3 Accreditation and recognition procedures of HED institutions and programmes Accreditation and recognition procedures; QA strategies. 2.4 Networks and partnerships among Higher Education institutions Associations of universities; thematic networks; academic networks; core elements for creation of good networking activities; formal programmes for the creation of JPs (i.e. EM). 2.5 Student management and support in the framework of joint programmes: VISA, services, joint applications and selection 2.6 Information resources on joint programmes and degrees

6 Module 3 - JPs and Recognition Procedures 3.1 Academic recognition procedures: national legislations and international instruments Bologna Process and Lisbon Recognition Convention; the concept of substantial differences. 3.2 Awarding joint qualifications Problems and good practices. 3.3 Recognition of joint qualifications International instruments and national legislations. 3.4 Joint degrees and labour market: professional recognition procedures Directive 2005/36/EC and regulated professions. 3.5 Joint programmes and quality assurance 3.6 Information resources on recognition procedures

7 FACE-TO-FACE SESSION How to create & manage an international consortium/network in the field of HED (i.e. Erasmus Mundus)
