Office of Science U.S. Department of Energy 2 Office of High Energy Physics Activities in FY03  Relatively late funding actions primarily due to lack of budget until Spring  Funded 14 university LC detector R&D proposals totaling $411.79k. Would liked to have done more but limited by budget. Funding decisions primarily based on the rankings by the Linear Collider Detector R&D Review Committee  Funded 12 university LC Accelerator R&D proposals totaling $400k. Funding decisions based on the rankings by the Linear Collider Accelerator R&D Review Committee and by additional internal and external reviews.

3. Office of Science U.S. Department of Energy 3 Office of High Energy Physics Program for FY04  Depending on the FY04 DOE budget we anticipate  a detector R&D funding level of $500k  an accelerator R&D funding level of $400k minimum and, hopefully, $800k. These funds require the approval of OMB – the same as in FY03.  Multi-year funding of proposals is anticipated with reasonably flat funding levels for each year. It is planned to be an open competition where applications will not be limited to previous LCRD grantees nor to present DOE grantees.  The review process for evaluating proposals will be similar to last year. Details will be announced soon.  Hopefully, the DOE budget will be passed this calendar year so funding actions can take place earlier than in FY03. We anticipate funding decisions will be made by early January at the latest.
