History 1950-2001

History 1951 marked one of the most successful examples of cross-cultural PR and fundraising efforts with the sale of Israeli government bonds to institutional and individual investors across the United States.

History In 1952, vice presidential candidate Richard Nixon used television to address his critics and answer charges of financial impropriety. In 1953, the United States Information Agency was created to disseminate news and cultural information abroad.

History In 1954, the United Nations, with entertainer Danny Kaye as its spokesman, launched UNICEF to promote awareness of socio-economic issues facing children in poor and underdeveloped countries.

History In 1982, Johnson and Johnson set new standards of crisis management by dealing with the Tylenol scare. In 1987, Lt. Col. Oliver North testified before Congress on his involvement in the Iran-Contra scandal. Dressed in full military garb, he polarized Americans on the issue.

History In 1989, the tanker Exxon Valdez ran aground in Prince William Sound, creating the largest oil spill in U.S. history and creating a PR nightmare for the oil company. In 1993, a syringe was found in a can of Pepsi. The company followed the Tylenol model.

History In 1999, Anheuser-Busch launched a public service campaign against drunk driving.

History In 1999, producers of “The Blair Witch Project” used the internet to create publicity and promotion for their low-budget horror film.
